Annual Community Hāngi
Every year we host our Community Hāngi. This is an event to welcome our new whānau with mihi whakatau and also for whakawhānaungatanga. Matua Bill our Kaitiaki lays our hāngi and we usually feed around 400 people. All our staff members serve our school community at hāngi. Our Whānau and Friends (PTA) group provide the steam puddings and custard. Tamariki learn and awhi by digging the hole, peeling the vegetables, making the stuffing, laying the kai and lifting the hāngi.
In 2021 we hosted our hāngi back at our new school site on Lyttelton Street. This was our official Mihi Whakatau for our newly built school. This was huge with invited guests including past students, past staff, community members, Ministry of Education staff and our local MP Dr. Megan Woods.
